Frank Lampard Senior
I've been reading all the West Ham books again and I'm starting once again the fabulous "They Played With John Lyall." If you haven't read it I would highly recommend a great read.

One thing strikes me though, and that's how despite being a legend in his own right, second in all time appearances list to the great Billy Bonds, Frank Lampard Senior doesn't seem to get the same level of admiration or respect for his achievements than both Billy and Sir Trevor amongst the fans.

Just wondering on why that may be bar being the father of Frank Junior of course!!

Yeah because most people would put a football club before their own children wouldn’t they?

Stupid comment.

Re: Frank Lampard Senior
Probably a mix of things why he's not loved.
The fact Ron Greenwood alluded to the fact he hinted he wanted to leave after Bobby Moore left. His son and relationship with Redknapp.
Moreover I think the fact that most people would put Julian Dicks as their first choice left-back in a West Ham dream XV has helped folk forget Frank Snr's credentials.
IMHO he is a player that is definitely among the West Ham greats.

Absolutely a club legend and if we had a Hall of Fame he’d be in the Top 10.

It's weird though, because Kane and Fat Frank are/were both pretty slow in the scheme of things. Both got a whiff of carthorse about them. I'm not having it that spikes made any difference at all. More grip doesn't equal more speed overall.

Lampard trained my old mans football team for a while and he used to train them to the point they were vomiting. Apparently was a bit of a cruel cunt like that, seemed to get some sort of pleasure out of it.

Re: Frank Lampard Senior
Vexed you may be right Lampard snr swears by them as he was told speed up or you are off to Torquay, so he got the spikes on improved his speed and stayed at West Ham he made Lampard Jr do the same to the point where Lampard used to cry because his old man pushed him hard. May not be science but he seems to think it worked for him, Lamps Jr and Kane

Re: Frank Lampard Senior
I don't believe there is a single shred of science behind that advice. Having spent many years running in spikes the only advantage they give is grip on a particular surface and they re pretty light. You have to be fast to wear spikes not the other way round.

Re: Frank Lampard Senior
Seems Frank Snr was responsible for helping Harry Kane

Frank Lampard senior was always one for believing training and running with spikes could give you that extra yard. Redknapp recalls a visit from Lampard senior at Tottenham

"The kid [Lampard Junior] was exactly the same. He got the [running] spikes. Frank couldn't run. He put the spikes on, ran ten yards...jogging, jogging, turn and run. And the kid did exactly the same as his Dad."

Redknapp recalled looking out of his West Ham manager's office on a dark, rainy afternoon at about 4pm to see Lampard Junior doing sprints all alone.

Lampard Junior

"I thought somebody had got over the fence onto the training pitch," Redknapp admitted.

Long, story short, Redknapp later became Tottenham manager and Lampard Senior joined him in the stands to watch a Spurs reserves side featuring Harry Kane against Birmingham Reserves.

"Harry Kane was fantastic that day - I think he scored four goals. Frank Senior was there but wasn't involved in football but lived nearby. He said to me after the game 'I like the centre-forward' and I said 'yeah, [Kane] is a good player, but he's just short of a yard though.'

"[Frank Senior] said 'can I have a chat with [Kane]?' So I said 'yeah, sure'. So Frank sidled up to him and he said 'Harry, I like you. Get yourself a pair of spikes. Give yourself another yard. Get yourself another yard and you'll be unplayable'. Next day, Harry got a pair of spikes, came in and started doing his sprint."

Team 33 also spoke to Redknapp about Gareth Bale's transition from left-back to vibrant attacker and his regret that West Ham could not keep their golden generation together.

I have never heard a good word about the bloke from people i know who have known him and worked with him. The general view being that he is very arrogant and quite moody.
